Exterior Finish – Heritage Natural Finish

Price range: $70.68 through $609.00

Durable exterior oil finish with built-in UV and mildew protection for outdoor wood.

Heritage Natural Finish Exterior Finish is formulated specifically for outdoor use. It begins with the trusted Original Finish and adds both a UV inhibitor and a natural mildewcide—providing extra protection for wood exposed to the elements.

Ideal for timber frames, logs, siding, decks, trim, and outdoor furniture, this penetrating oil nourishes and protects wood while allowing it to breathe naturally. When properly applied, it repels water effectively, forming a beading surface without sealing in moisture.

You can apply Exterior Finish by brush, rag, or spray. Recoating is easy—no stripping required. Simply clean the surface and apply another coat as part of your regular maintenance routine. Many users reapply annually for optimal protection and long-term beauty.

Sustainable by Nature

All Heritage Oil Finishes are non-toxic, biodegradable, and sustainable. They contain no heavy metals or chemical driers, allowing for deep wood penetration and preventing wrinkles or uneven drying. While this results in slightly longer drying times, it enhances durability and natural wood preservation.

Application Tips

These finishes can be applied in cold conditions with no strict minimum temperature. In cooler weather, apply thinner coats, wipe off any unabsorbed oil after a few hours, and allow extra drying time before applying the next coat.

For maximum outdoor performance, consider pre-treating all wood with a borate solution before applying oil for added insect resistance.

Coverage

Approximately 350 square feet per gallon, or 500 board feet per gallon, depending on wood texture and density.

  • Rough-sawn or softer species such as pine and reclaimed Douglas fir will absorb more.

  • Denser species like hickory will require less.

  • The second coat covers more area than the first.

  • Dry wood absorbs more oil than green timbers, so ordering a little extra is recommended.

Clean-Up

For spills, overspray, or brush cleaning, use Heritage Pure Citrus Solvent or compatible solvents such as turpentine or mineral spirits.
